Chicken and dumplings are a beloved comfort food that warms the heart and soul after eating it, while store bought dumplings can be convenient and good in taste, but if we talk about a homemade dumpling made from scratches gives another level of taste satisfaction.
Here's a step by step guide to make a delicious homemade chicken and dumplings:
2 Cups of all purpose flour
4 tablespoon baking soda
1/4 cup shortening (or butter)
3/4 warm water or milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 pound boneless and skinless chicken breast or thighs
4 cups chicken broth
1 onion diced
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper, according to taste
Prepare the Chicken and Broth First
First of all take a large pot, saute the diced onions and minced garlic until it gets soften.
Then add chicken, chicken broth then stir a little and then put thyme, pepper and salt according to your taste.
Bring to a boil, lower the flame and cook it until the chicken is finely cooked.
Make the Dumplings
Prepare the Dumpling Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, take the flour, baking soda and salt in the given quantity, whisk together all of them.
Add the melted butter and warm milk or water in the dried ingredients, stir it until you get a finely mixed batter, the batter should be thick and slightly lumpy.
